
Doris Pilkington Garimara
Doris Pilkington Garimara was an Australian author and Indigenous rights advocate, born in 1937. She is best known for her novel "Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence," which recounts her mother’s and her own experience of being taken from their Indigenous community as part of Australia’s forced assimilation policies. Her work highlights the injustices faced by Aboriginal people and promotes awareness of Indigenous culture and history. Pilkington Garimara's writing and activism have contributed significantly to the recognition of Indigenous stories and the ongoing fight for reconciliation and rights in Australia. She passed away in 2014.
