Donor organ scarcity
Donor organ scarcity refers to the imbalance between the number of patients needing organ transplants and the limited supply of available donor organs. Despite advances in medicine, there are many more people waiting for transplants than there are suitable organs from deceased or living donors. This gap is due to factors like limited donor registration, medical eligibility criteria, and logistical challenges. Consequently, many patients face long waits and the risk of deteriorating health or death before an organ becomes available. Efforts to increase organ donation and improve allocation systems aim to reduce this critical gap and save more lives.
