dominant and recessive traits

Dominant and recessive traits are concepts in genetics that explain how certain characteristics are inherited from parents. A dominant trait is one that will appear in an individual even if only one parent contributes the gene for it. In contrast, a recessive trait only shows up when an individual inherits the same gene from both parents. For example, if brown eyes are dominant and blue eyes are recessive, an individual with one brown-eye gene will have brown eyes, while only those with two blue-eye genes will have blue eyes. This genetic interaction determines physical traits and characteristics.
