Dominant
In genetics, "dominant" refers to a gene or trait that appears or is expressed when present in an individual's genetic makeup, even if only one copy is inherited from a parent. For example, if a person inherits a dominant gene for brown eyes, they will usually have brown eyes, regardless of the other eye color gene they carry. Dominant traits "mask" the effects of recessive traits, which only show up if two copies are inherited. In broader terms, "dominant" describes something that is more influential, prevalent, or powerful compared to others in a given context.
