Dom Pedro I
Dom Pedro I was a Brazilian prince who became the first Emperor of Brazil after declaring independence from Portugal in 1822. Originally born in Portugal, he played a key role in uniting Brazil, fighting for its independence, and establishing a new nation. Known for his leadership, he famously declared "Independência ou Morte!" (“Independence or Death!”) during Brazil’s fight for independence. He ruled as emperor from 1822 to 1831 before abdicating in favor of his son. His actions helped shape Brazil’s transition from a Portuguese colony to an independent empire.
