Dolomitization
Dolomitization is a geological process where limestone, primarily made of calcium carbonate, transforms into a mineral called dolomite, which includes calcium magnesium carbonate. This occurs when magnesium-rich waters seep through the limestone over time, replacing some calcium with magnesium in the rock's structure. The result is a more resistant and durable rock called dolomite. This process typically happens in ancient marine environments and plays a key role in shaping certain rock formations and reservoirs in the Earth's crust.
