DOK (Depth of Knowledge)

Depth of Knowledge (DOK) is a framework that categorizes tasks based on how deeply they require understanding and thinking. It measures the complexity of questions or activities, from basic recall of facts (DOK Level 1) to analyzing, evaluating, and creating new ideas (DOK Levels 3 and 4). The goal is to ensure tasks challenge learners appropriately and promote higher-order thinking skills. DOK helps educators design lessons and assessments that go beyond memorization, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities essential for real-world application.
