Dog's sense of smell

Dogs have an incredibly powerful sense of smell, thanks to up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses—compared to about 5-6 million in humans. Their nasal cavity is highly specialized, allowing them to detect and differentiate a vast array of scents simultaneously. This heightened sense enables dogs to track scents over long distances, identify individual animals or humans, and detect specific odors like drugs or illnesses. Their sense of smell is estimated to be 40 to 100 times more acute than ours, making them exceptional at olfactory tasks and vital for search and rescue, detection, and companionship.
