Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is a licensed medical professional trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses, similar to an M.D. (Doctor of Medicine). DOs receive additional training in the musculoskeletal system—the interconnected system of muscles and bones—and focus on a holistic approach, considering the whole person rather than just specific symptoms. They can prescribe medications, perform surgeries, and provide all types of medical care. This training emphasizes natural healing and the body's ability to recover, integrating manual techniques called osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) to support health and well-being.
