DO (Doctor of Osteopathy)
A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is a fully licensed physician similar to an MD (Doctor of Medicine). DOs receive specialized training in the musculoskeletal system—the bones, muscles, and joints—and emphasize a holistic approach to healthcare, considering the whole person rather than just symptoms. They can perform surgeries, prescribe medications, and provide all standard medical care. Additionally, DOs are trained in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), a hands-on technique to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness by gently manipulating the body's tissues. Overall, DOs focus on promoting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
