DNMT inhibitors
DNMT inhibitors are drugs that block the activity of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), enzymes responsible for adding methyl groups to DNA. Methylation is a natural process that can turn gene activity on or off. In some diseases, like certain cancers, abnormal methylation silences genes that prevent tumor growth. DNMT inhibitors reduce this unwanted methylation, helping to restore normal gene function. They are used as targeted therapies in conditions where reversing abnormal gene silencing can improve health outcomes, such as in specific blood cancers.
