Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are small-scale power generation or storage systems located close to where electricity is used, such as solar panels on rooftops or battery systems in homes. Unlike traditional power plants that generate electricity centrally and transmit it over long distances, DERs produce or store energy locally, helping to reduce transmission losses, improve reliability, and support a cleaner, more resilient grid. They allow consumers to generate their own power, share excess energy, and participate in a more flexible, sustainable energy system.
