Distinctiveness Model

The Distinctiveness Model suggests that people's attention and memory are influenced by how unique or different an item or event is compared to others. Items that stand out due to their unusual features or circumstances are more likely to be noticed, remembered, and prioritized. This model helps explain why certain experiences, images, or information are more memorable—they’re distinctive enough to capture our focus amid a sea of similar stimuli. In essence, our brain pays extra attention to things that are not only important but also distinct from our typical surroundings.
