Disease-modifying therapies
Disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) are treatments designed to slow or alter the course of a disease, particularly chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis. Unlike medications that only treat symptoms, DMTs target the underlying processes causing the disease, aiming to reduce flare-ups, damage, and progression over time. They may modify immune system activity or other biological factors to help preserve function and quality of life. While they often require regular administration and may have side effects, DMTs provide a proactive approach to managing ongoing disease impact rather than just addressing immediate symptoms.
