discoid lupus

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic autoimmune skin condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells, mainly causing round, disc-shaped (discoid) red, scaly patches. These lesions often appear on sun-exposed areas like the face, ears, and scalp, leading to scarring and skin discoloration over time. DLE primarily affects the skin without involving the internal organs, though some cases may progress to systemic lupus. It is managed with sun protection, topical or oral medications to reduce inflammation, and regular monitoring to prevent skin damage.
