disc diffusion method

The disc diffusion method is a laboratory test used to see if bacteria are sensitive to antibiotics. A sample of bacteria is spread on an agar plate, and small paper discs soaked with antibiotics are placed on the surface. During incubation, if the bacteria are susceptible, they won’t grow near the disc, creating a clear zone called the “zone of inhibition.” The size of this zone indicates how effective the antibiotic is against the bacteria. This method helps in choosing the most effective antibiotic for treating bacterial infections.
