director of photography
The director of photography (also known as the cinematographer) is responsible for capturing the visual look of a film or TV show. They work closely with the director to decide how scenes should appear—choosing camera angles, lighting, lens types, and film stock or digital settings. Their goal is to create the mood, atmosphere, and aesthetic quality that support the storytelling. Essentially, they translate the director’s vision into the visual language of the production, using technical expertise and artistic judgment to craft compelling images that enhance the narrative.
