Direct Democracy Switzerland

Direct democracy in Switzerland allows citizens to participate directly in decision-making processes. Instead of solely relying on elected representatives, Swiss citizens can propose changes to laws or the constitution through initiatives, or challenge existing laws through referendums. If enough signatures are gathered (usually 100,000 for initiatives and 50,000 for referendums), the proposal is put to a nationwide vote. This system fosters political engagement and allows the public to have a direct say in issues that affect their lives, making Switzerland unique in its approach to democracy and governance.
