Din-i Ilahi (religion)

Din-i Ilahi was a spiritual and philosophical system established by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. It aimed to promote unity among diverse religious communities by combining elements from various faiths, including Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and others. The religion emphasized morality, piety, and personal virtue over strict dogma. It was an exclusive, syncretic approach intended to foster tolerance and social harmony within Akbar’s diverse empire. However, Din-i Ilahi was short-lived and remained a minor, personal project of Akbar, not widely adopted, and did not develop into a formally organized religion.
