Dilation and curettage (D&C)

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a medical procedure used to remove tissue from the inside of the uterus. It involves gently opening the cervix (dilation) and scraping or suctioning the uterine lining with a special instrument called a curette. This procedure might be performed after a miscarriage, to diagnose or treat certain uterine conditions, or to remove abnormal tissue. D&C is typically done in a hospital or clinic under anesthesia, and aims to ensure the uterus is clear of tissue, promoting health or diagnosing issues. Recovery usually involves some cramping and bleeding, which resolve over time.
