dihydrotestosterone

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a powerful hormone derived from testosterone, the primary male sex hormone. It is produced when testosterone interacts with an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. DHT plays a key role in developing male physical characteristics like facial hair, deepening of the voice, and muscle growth during puberty. It also influences the growth of prostate tissue. However, excess DHT can contribute to conditions like hair loss (male pattern baldness) and prostate enlargement. It functions mainly in the reproductive and hormonal systems, helping to regulate gene expression related to male traits.
