Digital Intermediate

A Digital Intermediate (DI) is a process used in filmmaking to color grade and enhance the final look of a film after it’s been shot. It involves scanning the original footage into a digital format, allowing technicians to adjust color, contrast, brightness, and other visual elements precisely. This process ensures consistent, polished visuals and can also include effects or edits. Once finished, the digital version is converted back into film or digital format for distribution. Essentially, a DI is the final digital “fine-tuning” step that creates the movie’s distinctive visual style and ensures high-quality presentation.
