Digital exenteration
Digital exenteration is a surgical procedure involving the complete removal of the internal organs in the pelvis, such as the bladder, rectum, or reproductive organs, typically due to cancer. The term "digital" refers to the digital, or manual, aspect of the surgery—meaning it involves detailed, meticulous dissection and removal of these organs. This procedure is usually performed when the cancer is confined to the pelvic area and cannot be treated effectively with less invasive methods. It aims to remove all cancerous tissue to improve the patient’s chances of cure or better symptom control.
