Diedrich Buxtehude

Diedrich Buxtehude (c. 1637-1707) was a prominent Danish-German composer and organist of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. He is best known for his church music, particularly his organ works and cantatas, which blended rich harmonies with intricate counterpoint. Buxtehude served as the organist at St. Mary's Church in Lübeck, where he influenced many later composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach. His innovative compositions and improvisational skill made him a pivotal figure in the development of German music, helping to bridge the transition from Renaissance to Baroque styles.
