Dickinsonia

Dickinsonia is an ancient, multicellular organism from about 558 to 550 million years ago, during the deep pre-Cambrian period. Its distinctive, flat, oval or segmented body suggests it was a slow-moving or stationary creature that may have absorbed nutrients from the sediments beneath it. Recognized as one of the earliest known animals or possibly a unique form of life, Dickinsonia provides valuable insight into early multicellular life and the evolution of complex organisms. Its well-preserved fossils have helped scientists understand the origins of animal life on Earth.
