diastasis
Diastasis refers to a separation of the rectus abdominis muscles—the "six-pack" muscles—that run vertically along the front of your abdomen. This condition often occurs during pregnancy when the growing uterus stretches the abdominal muscles, causing a gap between them. It can also happen due to significant abdominal strain or trauma. While common postpartum, diastasis may lead to a weak core, back pain, or a bulging appearance in the abdomen. Treatment includes exercises to strengthen the core, and in some cases, medical intervention may be necessary. It’s important to address diastasis to support overall abdominal health.
