Dialysis Access Surgery
Dialysis access surgery is a procedure performed to create a reliable way for patients with kidney failure to receive dialysis treatment. Dialysis cleans the blood when the kidneys are not functioning adequately. Surgeons connect a vein and artery, usually in the arm, to create a vascular access point, called a fistula. This access point allows blood to flow efficiently to the dialysis machine. In some cases, other types of access, like grafts or catheters, may be used. Proper access is crucial for effective dialysis and improving the patient's quality of life.
