Dhanushkodi
Dhanushkodi is a small, abandoned town located at the southern tip of India, near the Indian Ocean and the Palk Strait. Once a bustling port and pilgrimage site, it was largely destroyed by a cyclone in 1964, which caused severe flooding and damage. Today, Dhanushkodi is known for its scenic beaches, historic ruins, and as a point near the Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram. It’s also famous for the "Dhanushkodi Point," a site showcasing the boundary between India and Sri Lanka, connected by a narrow strip of land. Visitors often explore its tranquil landscapes and remnants of the past.
