Dewan Bahadur (title)

Dewan Bahadur was a hereditary title of honor awarded during British rule in India, primarily from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. It was bestowed upon Indian officials, administrators, or distinguished citizens in recognition of their service, contributions, or loyalty to the British government. The title conferred social prestige and often elevated the recipient's status within their community. It was part of a system designed to recognize and reward local leaders, fostering cooperation between the British authorities and Indian elites. The title is no longer in use since India gained independence in 1947.
