Detrusor Function

Detrusor function refers to the activity of the detrusor muscle, a layer of smooth muscle in the bladder wall responsible for squeezing the bladder to release urine. During bladder filling, the detrusor muscle relaxes to accommodate urine without pressure buildup. When it's time to urinate, the muscle contracts, helping to expel urine through the urethra. Proper detrusor function ensures efficient storage and timely emptying of the bladder, maintaining urinary health. Dysfunction can lead to issues like incontinence or urinary retention, highlighting its essential role in normal bladder control.
