Detroit riots
The Detroit riots, also known as the 1967 Detroit uprising, were a series of violent confrontations that occurred over five days in July 1967. They were triggered by longstanding racial tensions, economic inequality, and police misconduct targeting African Americans in Detroit. The unrest involved looting, arson, and clashes with police, resulting in 43 deaths, hundreds of injuries, and significant property damage. The riots highlighted deep racial divides and systemic issues faced by Black communities, leading to increased calls for social justice, reform, and efforts to address racial inequality in the city.
