Desert Shield
Operation Desert Shield was a military operation initiated by the United States and its allies in 1990 in response to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. The operation aimed to protect Saudi Arabia from a potential Iraqi attack and to build up forces in the region. It served as a defensive measure to deter further aggression and to safeguard oil supplies crucial to the global economy. Desert Shield set the stage for the subsequent Operation Desert Storm in 1991, which aimed to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. The operation involved a large-scale mobilization of troops and military equipment in the Persian Gulf.
