Desensitization therapy
Desensitization therapy, often called exposure therapy, is a psychological treatment that helps individuals reduce their fear or anxiety responses to specific situations or stimuli. It involves gradually and systematically exposing a person to the feared object or situation in a controlled way, starting with less threatening levels and progressing to more challenging ones. Over time, this repeated exposure helps the brain reframe its response, decreasing emotional distress and increasing coping ability. This approach is commonly used for phobias, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, aiming to build resilience and promote a sense of control.
