Desaparecidos
The Desaparecidos were individuals, often political opponents, activists, or civilians, who disappeared during the military dictatorship in Argentina from 1976 to 1983. Many were abducted and detained illegally by the government’s security forces, frequently without acknowledgment or trial, with the aim of suppressing dissent. The term “desaparecidos” (meaning “the disappeared”) refers to these victims, whose fate was often unknown, symbolizing a dark period of human rights violations. Their stories have become a powerful reminder of the importance of truth, justice, and the protection of human rights.
