"Der Freischütz" is a German opera by Carl Maria von Weber, blending romanticism and folk elements. It tells the story of a young hunter, Max, who seeks to win his bride’s love and prove his courage. To do so, he agrees to cast magic bullets to ensure his success, but one of the bullets is cursed. The opera explores themes of nature, instinct, and the supernatural, set against the backdrop of the German forest. Its dramatic music and storytelling laid the foundation for Romantic opera and remain influential in the classical repertoire.
