Deposition of amyloid
Deposition of amyloid refers to the accumulation of abnormal protein fragments called amyloid in tissues and organs. These proteins fold incorrectly and form clumps, which can disrupt normal cell function. Over time, this buildup can impair the affected organs, such as the heart, kidneys, or nervous system, potentially leading to disease. Amyloid deposition is characteristic of certain conditions like amyloidosis and some forms of Alzheimer's disease, where these insoluble protein deposits interfere with the body's normal operations and health.
