deposition mechanisms
Deposition mechanisms describe how particles or gases settle out of the air and settle onto surfaces. They include gravity, where larger particles gradually fall to the ground; inertial impaction, where particles can't follow air streams around obstacles and collide with surfaces; interception, when particles follow airflow streams close enough to touch surfaces; and diffusion, where very small particles move randomly and eventually settle. These processes determine how pollutants or particles move from the air onto objects, influencing air quality and surface contamination.
