Depleted Gas Reservoirs
Depleted gas reservoirs are underground formations that have previously contained natural gas but have been heavily extracted, leaving behind significantly reduced amounts of gas. These reservoirs are now largely empty of their original resource, but the underground spaces, called porous rock formations, still exist. They can sometimes be repurposed for storing other substances, such as natural gas from new sources or carbon dioxide, because their underground structure can safely contain these materials. Understanding depleted reservoirs helps in maximizing resource use and exploring options for safe and efficient underground storage.
