Denmark's Medieval History

Denmark’s medieval history (roughly 10th to 15th centuries) was marked by the rise of a unified kingdom centered around the Jutland Peninsula. Danish kings expanded their influence through warfare and alliances, eventually established the Kalmar Union with Sweden and Norway in 1397, uniting Scandinavian interests. The period saw the growth of Christianity, construction of impressive churches and castles, and the rise of a knightly aristocracy. Despite internal conflicts and external threats like the Hanseatic League, Denmark strengthened its monarchy and territorial holdings, laying the foundation for its future as a regional power.
