Dendroaspis (genus)

Dendroaspis is a genus that includes the highly venomous snakes known as mambas, native to Africa. These slender, fast-moving snakes are renowned for their potent neurotoxic venom, which can disrupt the nervous system and cause paralysis or death if untreated. There are several species within this genus, with the black mamba being the most famous. Mambas are typically arboreal (tree-dwelling) but also frequent grasslands and savannas. Despite their dangerous reputation, they generally avoid humans and will only bite if threatened. Their agility and speed make them some of the fastest and most agile snakes in the world.
