Democratic Army of Greece

The Democratic Army of Greece was a communist-led guerrilla force active during the Greek Civil War (1946-1949). Comprising mainly former resistance fighters and communist supporters, it aimed to establish a socialist state. The army fought against government forces supported by Western nations, particularly the United States and the UK, who sought to prevent the spread of communism. Despite initial gains, the Democratic Army was eventually defeated, leading to a period of strict government control, but it played a significant role in Greece's 20th-century political history.
