Deltaic Environments

Deltaic environments are areas where a river meets a larger body of water, like an ocean or a sea. As the river flows into this larger body, its speed slows, causing sediments such as sand, silt, and clay to settle out and build up over time. This accumulation creates a delta—typically a landform with multiple channels, wetlands, and often rich soil supporting diverse ecosystems. Deltas are dynamic and constantly changing, influenced by water flow, tides, and sediment supply, making them important in ecology, agriculture, and human settlement.
