delayed CINV

Delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) occurs hours or even days after treatment, unlike immediate CINV that happens during or right after chemotherapy. It is caused by certain chemicals released in the body in response to treatment, affecting the brain’s vomiting center. This type of nausea and vomiting can persist even after the initial effects of treatment have worn off, often lasting 2 to 3 days. Managing delayed CINV typically involves specific medications taken around the time of treatment or afterward to help control symptoms and improve comfort.
