Delaware River Basin Compact

The Delaware River Basin Compact is an agreement among Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware to manage and protect the waters of the Delaware River and its basin. Established in 1961, it ensures coordinated planning for water use, quality, flood control, and environmental preservation. The Compact creates the Delaware River Basin Commission, a regional organization that makes decisions to promote sustainable water resources, prevent conflicts, and support economic and ecological health across the states. It’s a collaborative effort to ensure the river remains a valuable resource for current and future generations.
