Delatores

Delatores were ancient Roman informers or accusers, often acting as spies or witnesses in legal cases. They played a key role in the Roman justice system by reporting crimes, corruption, or treason to authorities. While their reports could help maintain public order, they also sometimes led to personal gain, political maneuvering, or unjust imprisonments, as accusations could be motivated by personal vendettas or bribery. The term "delator" has come to be associated with those who betray others by informing for their own benefit, reflecting the complex and sometimes controversial role they played in Roman society.
