Del Martin

Del Martin was a pioneering American lesbian activist and writer, best known for co-founding the Daughters of Bilitis in 1955, the first lesbian rights organization in the U.S.. She dedicated her life to advocating for LGBTQ+ equality, challenging societal norms and fighting discrimination. Martin also authored books and articles promoting understanding and acceptance of same-sex relationships. Her work helped legitimize and advance the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, especially women, during a time of significant social resistance.
