Dekanawida
Dekanawida was a prominent leader and prophet among the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) in the 12th or 15th century. He is best known for helping create the Great Law of Peace, a unifying constitution that brought together five Native nations—Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca—promoting peace, cooperation, and unity. His leadership emphasized consensus, respect, and the importance of working together for common well-being. Dekanawida's teachings and efforts significantly influenced the confederacy’s stability and the development of democratic principles that continue to inspire today.
