Deiodinase

Deiodinases are enzymes in the body that activate or deactivate thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolism, energy use, and development. They work by removing iodine atoms from thyroid hormones, converting them into forms that are either more active or less active. There are three types: D1 and D2 mainly activate hormones to produce energy, while D3 deactivates hormones to help control their levels. These enzymes allow the body to fine-tune thyroid hormone activity according to different tissues and needs, maintaining a balanced metabolic state.
