Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD)

REDD, which stands for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, is an international effort to combat climate change by protecting forests. Deforestation is the clearing of forests for agriculture, development, or other uses, leading to loss of trees and biodiversity. Forest degradation involves the decline in forest health and carbon storage without complete removal. REDD incentivizes countries and communities to preserve their forests by providing financial rewards or credits for maintaining forest cover, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving ecosystems, and supporting sustainable land use.
