Deforestation and Forest Degradation
Deforestation is the removal or clearing of large areas of forest, often to make space for agriculture, urban development, or logging. Forest degradation refers to the deterioration of forest quality and health, such as reduced biodiversity, lower tree density, or compromised ecosystems, without completely removing the trees. Both processes harm the environment by reducing carbon storage, disrupting wildlife habitats, and contributing to climate change. While deforestation involves significant loss of forest cover, degradation gradually diminishes forest resilience and ecological functions.
